1st XI match report vs Didsbury, Saturday 06/06/2015

The scene was set for a giant killing, with struggling Middlewich now sitting deep in the relegation zone, high flyers, Didsbury made the trip to the Croxton Oval hoping to extend their winning streak.

Captain Nick Gill won the toss and elected to bat first with the fresh combination of Jamie Williams and Richard ‘Creepy’ Clorley gallantly making their way out to the middle. The innings was off to a spectacular start with both Williams and Clorley finding the middle on more than a few occasions whilst also running positively between the innings, a trait not many Middlewich batsmen have mastered this season…yet. Creepy (9) was the first to go to a ball which kept a little low from Didsbury’s overseas recruit, bringing the experienced James Cornford (24) to the crease, who together with Williams (52) added 50 for the second wicket taking the total to 80-1. Unfortunately though it just wasn’t to be for Middlewich who then began a collapse of epic proportion and disappointment, taking the home side to a sloppy 122 all out.

Moment of the day:
Jamie ‘Jambo’ Williams took a lusty blow to the head from Cheshire bowler, Nick Anderson, which many would have thought would knock the young mans confidence. Jambo then proceeded to extravagantly reverse paddle Simon Normanton for 4 runs down to third man, triggering a fine display of batting and eventual 50, which all will hope is the first of many.

Little is to be said for the second innings of the game, little chances were created, many good shots were played and Didsbury (Nick Anderson) proved far too good, reaching the total inside a mere 22 overs, winning by 10 wickets. Captain Nick Anderson finished unbeaten on 95*

Captains Corner
“Sometimes we have to just say, they were better, but the manner in which we have lost today isn’t acceptable on any level. The lads are itching to get this season rolling in the right direction and are looking at how they are preparing, what we can do differently and importantly how we start to climb up the table”
This weekend Middlewich make the trip to Christleton, a fixture which has proved successful over the past couple of seasons and one that Nick Gill’s men will be looking at taking maximum points from.
