Under 13s Battle the Elements to a Convincing Win

The under 13s 2015 campaign got into full swing on Monday as they entertained Congleton after a false start to the season when Haslington conceded the first match last week.

The night started as it would end up, with Johnson winning the toss and electing to put Congleton into bat; a wise move as it meant Congleton would end up fielding in cold and wet wintery conditions during the second spell.

Nalyor (1-7 from 2) & Irvin (0-6 from 3) opened with tight bowling only giving away 2 extras between them against what can only be described as an imposing opening batsman, who while powerful in stoke play, was made to earn his 33 by Middlewich, taking 7 overs to reach his tally.

More tight and dominating bowling followed from all, with Davies topping the bowling figures with 2 wickets for 5 runs from his 2 over spell. This was matched by disciplined fielding, excellent backing up and the stout wicket keeping of Egerton kept the visitors total to 65 at the break.

Davies(9) and Irving(28) opened the batting with Davies fighting his demons after being given out for a duck in a previous U15s game, batting confidently for 5 overs against the blistering opening bowler of Congleton.

Irvin showed he has not lost his spark for offside shots and aided by his new bat, was unfortunate to be dismissed just 2 runs short of retiring.

Following the opening pair and in quickly fading light and conditions were, Johnson (5), Foster (6), Cottam (5), Oakes (4) & Cummings (0) who easily took Middlewich’s score past the visitors with 5 overs to spare.

Highlight of the match was Oakes’s pull to square leg for 4 clinching the victory in style.
