Under 13's v Rode Park & Lawton CC - Under 13

Middlewich Cricket Club’s Under 13’s continued in their winning ways on Monday night with their 2nd win of the season at home against Rode Park.

Thankfully the conditions had improved since the week before and the game was played in a more spring like climate.

Johnson © again won the toss for Middlewich and again elected to put the opposition into bat, a strategy which I suspect will prevail throughout the season from the young captain.

Opening the bowling for Middlewich again was Irving (1-8 from 3) & Naylor (1-3 from 4) who are proving to be a formidable pair taking 2 wickets and only giving away 11 runs from a 7 over tally.

Rode Park’s opening bat looked impressive and retired undefeated on 33, but once their main strike force left the field, Middlewich’s bowlers restricted the rest to only an additional 14 runs from the following 8 batsmen, and really should have had the innings over quickly, but a few dropped catches and sloppy fielding meant the home side had to settle for Rode Park batting the full 20 overs and finishing on 60 for 6.

After the break Middlewich’s opening pair of Foster(1) & Irving (4) looked confident at the crease despite the usual dressing room debate about who would open the batting, but despite their confidence, were unable to put a dent in the score and Foster fell to a good ball from Rode Park and Irving an excellent catch at deep cover.

After the opening pair, the runs piled on quickly and Middlewich repeated the week before knocking off the total in the 15th over with Oakes who’s unorthodox batting style making the highest score of 19 not out and earning him man of the match.
