Newly appointed captain, Kyran Davies won the toss and asked the home side to put them on first. A strong team performance on the field helped Middlewich restrict Holmes Chapel to a competitive 106 from their 20 overs. Notable efforts came from wicketkeeper, Rhys John, taking a fantastic catch to help dismiss the opening batsmen. Leon Maddock produced a fine spell of bowling, backed up by Jack Irving, Alex Ellison, Danny Partington and Aaron Corrigan, who particularly impressed with the new ball.
Middlewichâs chase was looking a little shaky to start with following a couple of early wickets, captain Kyran Davies (46*) called on his experience to produce an explosive counter attacking innings, with a highlight being a huge six which crashed into one of the houses! Kyran was well supported by opener Rhys John and also produced a classy partnership with left hander Jason Bliss (26*) who never looked like getting out in an innings which contained 3 boundaries. Leon Maddock provided the finishing touch, removing the pressure from the situation and maturely knocking the ball around for Middlewich to surpass the total only 3 wickets down and inside 19 overs.
Middlewich will hope for a repeat performance with a home tie against Haslington on Wednesday.
Great job lads!
Steve.
