Middlewich 1st XI hosted Tattenhall in what proved to be a high-scoring and closely contested fixture. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Middlewich posted a solid total of 219 for 6 from their allotted 50 overs. Despite an excellent platform laid by the top order, they were unable to capitalise fully and push towards a truly imposing score.
Matt Allen led the way with a patient and classy 68 (98), supported by Nick Gill (38) and David Bates (48) in a steady middle-order partnership. George Oakes added valuable late-innings acceleration with 32 from just 27 balls, ensuring the innings finished with momentum.
In reply, Tattenhall paced their chase well. Despite an early wicket from Kall Boyle, a series of fluent knocks from the top order — including Tom Hyslop (53) and Freddie Cheshire (44) — saw the home side reach the target with 4 wickets and 8.4 overs to spare.
The Middlewich bowling unit worked hard on a true pitch, with wickets shared between Kall Boyle, Gavin Twigg and Ryan Jones. However, regular boundaries and well-run singles by Tattenhall ensured that pressure never truly mounted.
Notable Performances:
• Matt Allen – 68 (12 fours, 1 six)
• David Bates – 48
• George Oakes – 32 off 27
• Kall Boyle – 1 for 45
• Gavin Twigg – 2 for 36
Middlewich will look to bounce back next week and convert strong starts into match-winning performances.
