Middlewich 2nd XI turned in a dominant performance to claim their first win of the season, comfortably defeating Stockport Trinity by 90 runs at home. The result lifts Middlewich off the foot of the table and injects much-needed momentum into their campaign.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts posted an imposing 222 for 6 from their 40 overs, led by a composed 64 from Craig Marsden at the top of the order. Omkar Singh and Si Anderson-Dry added useful 19s, while David Bates (40) and Jack Davies (37)* combined well in the middle overs to steer the innings to a competitive total. Extras contributed a handy 21, as Stockport’s bowlers toiled under pressure.
With the ball, Middlewich were relentless from the start. Jack Davies (10-2-23-2) and Marco Azakli (10-5-17-2) set the tone with tight spells, and Ted Prime (8-2-13-3) was devastating through the middle overs. Stockport Trinity never looked in the chase, and despite a spirited 62 from captain Muhammad Sohail Shams, they were restricted to 132 for 9 in their full 40 overs.
The performance was a complete team effort, with contributions across the board and sharp fielding to back up the bowling unit. The result propels Middlewich to 11th in the table and just one point outside the safety zone — a platform to build on as the season progresses.
